Kaleidescape DVD archive and media server
You know a company has a hot product when someone sues them. The Kaleidescape media server does for your DVDs what iTunes do for your CDs: it centralizes all your video content and creates your own on-demand service. And yes, they do rip the content off the physical media and store it on hard disk, hence the lawsuit.
Lawsuits aside, though, the machine had a user interface designed for widescreen use, as you can see in the upper photo. Its form factor could use some work though, as you can see from the lower picture. Most media servers are designed to fit into your audio/video component stack. This one is its own rack of gear.
