iPod backlog approaching a quarter-million units

Apple Insider says that Apple laptop demand has slowed dramatically as consumers anticipate new Intel-based laptops, but iPod backlogs are becoming significant, with just one Apple distributor reporting a backlog of 200,000 already. Even the often discounted iPod Shuffles are in demand this holiday, with a distributor reporting a backlog of 30,000 Shuffles.

Both of these data points reinforce my view that 1) demand for iPods is exceeding production capability this holiday season, and 2) Apple's earnings will be good, but not quite as over-the-top as some analysts are predicting.
